September 15th Update

posted Sep 15, 2020, 12:38 PM by Christine Pépin

IMPORTANT INFORMATION from OTTAWA PUBLIC HEALTH

Following a meeting with Ottawa Public Health, we were provided an important update regarding students and staff illness management of COVID 19. As we learn to understand and apply the proper guidelines, we appreciate your patience and understand that this may cause frustration and stress. We are provided with more information on a regular basis and will continue to keep you informed as the situation progresses.

Please note that students should not enter the school if they have any of these symptoms:

  • fever, chills,

  • new or worsening cough,

  • barking cough,

  • shortness of breath,

  • sore throat,

  • trouble swallowing,

  • changes in taste or smell,

  • nausea or vomiting,

  • diarrhea or stomach pain,

  • an unusual headache,

  • runny nose or nasal congestion,

  • unexplained fatigue,

  • sore muscles,

  • pink eye.

When a student develops one of these symptoms at school and is unwell, he or she will be directed to a medical room. Parents and guardians are going to be contacted to pick the child and other household contacts within the school to self isolate at home. If the child with symptoms gets tested based on the guidelines of Public Health or a Health Care Provider recommendations, the student and household contacts must stay isolated at home until a negative result comes back and until without symptoms for 24 hours. If the student receives a positive result, OPH will be providing specific directions for everyone in the household.

If the child does not get tested, he or she, as well as all household contacts, must self-isolate for a minimum of 14 days and be without symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school. If an alternate diagnosis is provided by a Health Care Provider, the school will follow the directions provided by a doctor as long as the student is without symptoms for 24 hours.
